Things To Remember Before Opting To Study In Canada

Every student wants to get an opportunity to study in some of the leading educational institutions and make a successful career. For this purpose, Canada is one of the top choices among students to study abroad.

Canada ranks among the top nations for world-class education and high quality of life. It has warm and welcoming citizens with a lifetime experience that will shape your life. The country with four beautiful seasons, wide-open spaces, diverse wildlife, and a clean environment gives an affordable education with a wide range of specialized courses.

However, if you are planning to study in Canada, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind before choosing the nation that include:-

(1). Study in Canada is affordable- In terms of undergraduate course fee structure, Canada is affordable in comparison to other nations. Also, living in Canada costs the same as America, the UK, and Australia. Canada’s undergraduate tuition fees range between $12,000 and $18,000 per year.

(2). There are two official languages in Canada- Canada has two official languages, English and French.  So, it becomes easy for foreign students to live and communicate in Canada. However, most French speakers reside in the Quebec province of the country.

(3). Canada offers several study scholarships for international students- Canada offers multiple study scholarships for foreign students and helps them study in the country by offering finances to meritorious students. However,  the scholarships are limited, and owing to their popularity there is tough competition for them.

(4). The Weather- If you are planning to study in Canada, then be ready to experience cold weather and snowfalls for several months. Canada is a cool country and competes with Russia to be the coldest country in the world. It has an average daily temperature of -5.6%.

(5). It houses some of the top universities in the world- Canada houses some of the world’s top universities. As per rankings, 32 Canadian institutions are counted among the best ones in the world. Also, it’s relatively easier to get admission to these universities in comparison to the US. But, it depends on your academic records too.

(6). It’s relatively fast to get a study visa- You do not need a study permit for short-term courses in Canada that is for 6 months or less. To study in Canada for more than 6 months, you need a study permit. After applying for it, the processing takes 90 days. However,  it’s usually faster. Based on your nationality, you might need a temporary residence permit that takes the same processing time.

Whether or not there is a need for the permit, Everyone has to give:

  • Acceptance letter from an educational institution
  • Proof of ability to pay tuition fees, living expenses, or return fares.
  • Fulfill health requirements

Also, it is important to have study abroad insurance which one needs before traveling.

For part-time or full-time work, you will need a valid study permit for working up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks. However,  some courses don’t allow you to work for more than 10 hours per week during the term.

(8). Acceptance rate is high- It’s relatively easy to get acceptance for Canadian Universities. Canada has a wide range of courses and most of them have an eligibility criterion of a high school diploma. The courses offer a variety of co-curricular activities and require excellent English communication skills.

(9). Post- Graduation work Permit Program- One of the reasons that make Canada popular among international students is its stay-back options for foreign students. However, there is no stay-back provision for courses less than 8 months. You need to keep in mind to apply for a postgraduate work permit program within 3 months of completion of the Study program.

(10). Lucrative post-graduate courses- As mentioned above, Canada houses some of the leading and renowned universities in the world. At the same time, a Master’s degree is granted by universities only. Also, there are options for foreign students to go for a postgraduate diploma who complete the 3-year bachelor’s program.
